An exhibition, in the most general sense, is an organized presentation that display of a selection of products or ideas. In practice, exhibitions usually occur within galleries and specially made exhibition halls that hosts many exhibition stands.

Though exhibitions and exhibition stands designs are referred as both permanent and temporary displays, in common usage, exhibitions are considered temporary and usually scheduled to be open on specific dates. Many exhibitions are shown in just one venue, there are exhibitions that are shown in multiple locations and are called travelling exhibitions with makeshift exhibition stands, and some are online exhibitions.

1. Frankfurt Main Messegelande, Frankfurt, Germany

Most are familiar with the Messe in Frankfurt as it spans in roughly 367,000 square meters. It is humongous in size as it takes 5-minute shuttle ride from entrance to the hall having exhibition stands. At 496,000 square meters, the Hannover Fair started way back in 1947. It is fully integrated with the city’s public transport infrastructure since 1949. Hannover underwent extensive re-modeling in preparation for Expo 2000.

4. Koln Messegelande, Cologne, Germany

Located in Cologne (Koln) in Northern Germany, it has world class exhibition stand design and spans in 284,000 square meters. It hosts 2,000 meetings and conferences and about major 75 trade fairs each year. The exhibition fairs have been held at the site since 1922.

5. Paris Nord Villepinte, Paris, France

Built between 1980 and 1992, It is one of 10 conference, exhibition and entertainment venues in the Paris metropolitan area under the management of Viparis. It is the 8th biggest in the world. It typically hosts a variety of events including both public exhibitions and trade shows. It covers a total area 242,000 square meters.

6. McCormick Place, Chicago, USA.

McCormick place has hosted the primary US based trade show for meetings and incentives known colloquially as IT&ME. Spread over 241,000 square meters and can hold more than 100 exhibition stands, McCormick has expanded over the years. It is now a fully integrated campus that includes accommodation, retail and a transport hub. It is the largest such facility in the US spread over 4 areas, linked by pedestrian promenades and sky bridges that lets the visitors reach the exhibition stands conveniently

7. Dusseldorf Messegelande, Dusseldorf, Germany (262,000 square metres)

Dusseldorf harbors one of the popular exhibition centers . With 262,000 square metres of space that comprises of 19 exhibition halls so you can calculate the number of exhibition stands it can hold. Messe Dusseldorf has its own comprehensive app and several social media channels.

8. Fira Barcelona – Gran Via, Barcelona, Spain

With two exhibition venues in Barcelona, Fira Barcelona, the Gran Via spans over 240,000 square meters. The exhibition and exhibition stand design was the brainchild of Japanese architect Toyo Ito. It has 8 interconnected halls and 45 restaurants. It is located close to Barcelona Airport.

9. National Exhibition and Convention Center, Shanghai, China

Built in the shape of a four-leaf clover and 400,000 in total area, this highly iconic exhibition venue actually claims to be one of the biggest in the world. Dating from 2011, this convention center is a statement venue.

10. Fiera Milano, Milan, Italy

The Fiera Milano spans over 345,000 square meters. Opened  over a decade ago, the complex is the brain child of an Italian born architect, Massimiliano Fuksas, who has undertaken signature projects all over the world. The stunning new terminal at Shenzhen Airport in China is also designed by the same architect. There are 8 pavilions in all in the Fiera Milano exhibition hall.

Being the largest exhibition and convention centre in Indonesia, it also facilitates a full spectrum of business events. It offers over 50,000 square metre outdoor spaces for exhibition stand design construction.
